Freshwater Creek TMDL Mass Wasting and Sediment Source Analysis Multi-phase project to identify mass wasting features for the entire Freshwater Creek watershed, Humboldt County, California. In the first phase, PWA completed an air photo analyses to determine landslide dimensions and attribute information for landslides throughout the watershed, mapped features on GIS, and verified results in the field. For the second phase, PWA analyzed (identified, mapped, and attributed) mass wasting features in three forested field areas (young growth, advanced second growth, and old growth forests), each with at least 10 miles of affected stream channel. PWA then combined field results with air photo analyses to develop a quantitative method for correlating field mapping and photographic analysis of mass wasting features and sediment delivery. Additional work on this project currently underway. (North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board.) |
